FUTURE

Timeless…limitless - nothing demonstrates this theme more in Port Gibson than their commitment to Mississippi hospitality for all their guests. This commitment extends to future plans to improve comforts and amenities for tourists.

Port Gibson 2020 is a comprehensive plan to enhance Port Gibson's historic district. The heart of the plan is a proposed Highway 61 bypass. Just off that bypass, planners intend to develop a visitor's area within walking distance of historic downtown, complete with restaurant, shopping and lodging opportunities. They also plan to construct a convention center in this central area.

Plans are also underway to develop an abandoned railroad right-of-way into a recreational trail. The proposed five-mile Iron Horse Trail would begin near downtown and continue north along scenic Little Bayou Pierre.

These plans intend not to create but enhance a tourism infrastructure that already offers great value to area visitors. The people of Port Gibson desire to make a good opportunity for discovery and relaxation even better.
