Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Plant, generating electricity for the Entergy Corporation, has been positively influencing the Claiborne County economy for over twenty-five years. Grand Gulf currently employs over 700 people (one of Claiborne County's largest employers), and has an annual payroll of approximately $49 million dollars.

Because of its impressive performance and safety records, Grand Gulf is among the country's most effective and efficient nuclear power plants. Not only is it highly probable that the plant will continue its strong presence in the regional economy for some time to come, plans are also in development to expand the plant's current capacity of 1,204 megawatts of emission-free electricity.

Claiborne County is partnering with Grand Gulf to facilitate any future expansion. Recently, the county received a promise of federal funding for a new connector access road between the plant (along with the Claiborne County Port) and U.S. Highway 61. This new roadway will provide safer access to Grand Gulf and other locations nearby.
