Port Gibson, a place where forests and rivers come together, offers
several recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.
Hunting and fishing are a mainstay of life here in Claiborne County.
Lush hardwood forests are home to large populations of wild game
like deer and turkey. Canemount Plantation, a hunter's retreat with
10,000 acres of prime woods, offers one of the many venues for accessing
these rich game lands.
The marriage of streams and forests are also excellent for hiking
and camping. Grand Gulf Military Park offers areas for tent and
RV camping. Outdoor enthusiasts can also access the Mississippi
River nearby for picnicking and exploring.
Another recreational opportunity is now in the development stages.
Iron Horse Trail is a proposed pedestrian trail that will follow
about five miles of an abandoned railroad track from downtown Port
Gibson to scenic views along the Little Bayou Pierre.
